Knowledge Is Power

Hebrews 4:12, John 1:1-5, Isaiah 55:11, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Ephesians 6:17, 1 John 2:14

We’ve all rebelled against God at different seasons in our life. Satan ruled over us during these times and left us feeling hurt and broken. But what if we could undo all the hurt he caused us?

We can once we understand the way the devil works. We’re not the first to fall victim to his lies. Satan’s victories began in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve stopped believing God’s truth and started believing his lies. We can undo everything the enemy has done to damage us and the victory he has over us when we stop believing what he says and start believing what God says. The only way to do this is by utilizing the one offensive weapon God has given us - His Word.

The Bible is so central to spiritual warfare because it is the mechanism by which we renew our minds to believe God’s truth. The Bible not only tells us what to believe, it empowers us to believe it. The Bible is far more than words on a page; it is truth that has existed since before the earth was created. Hebrews 4:12 says, “The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. . . ” God’s word will do the changing. All we have to do is read it. As we begin to know it well, we will actually become a threat to the devil’s plans. Not only does knowledge of God’s word allow us not to be afraid of the devil, it makes him afraid of us.

Reflect:

  • How much power do you think God’s word has?
  • How have you seen God change you through His word?
  • How has the devil been trying to deceive you? What verses can you use to remind yourself of truth when you are feeling deceived?
